binding communities through the power of literature

GIFT
Community organizations host book drives where participants donate books no longer utilized in the home, which they believe young at-risk students would love the opportunity to read.

RECEIVE
Book BindED sets up a bookshop at a school/youth organization where students ‘shop’ for their very own collection of books. These are books they CHOOSE based on interests, curiosities, and need.

OWN
Students who participate are now owners of a wide selection of age-appropriate and culturally relevant books that they can build their own at home-libraries with.
Children who have greater access to print,
show more enjoyment towards reading, books, and thus academics
BUILDING A LITERACY FOCUSED COMMUNITY

STUDENTS
Our team uses a structured technique to show students how to analyze books based on difficulty, interest, and curiosity. We facilitate learning by guiding students to use the skills and strategies taught when making the choice on what books to read.

SCHOOLS/EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
Teachers/Leaders become facilitators in students process of choosing books and are offered additional resources and materials to further build a foundation of literacy in students.

PARENTS/CAREGIVERS
Parents/Caregivers learn how promoting literacy in the home stems far beyond simply making sure your child is reading. They are also given tips and strategies on how to encourage a culture of literacy in the home.
Children who have access to at least twenty books at home, irregardless of their parents’ education, occupation, and class, will be
three years ahead in school relative to their peers
